The Beretta® 96A1 Semi-Auto Pistol

The Beretta® 96A1 Semi-Auto Pistol utilizes one of the most extensively tested and duty-proven designs in existence. The 96A1 uses the same basic design as the standard M9 Beretta, with added features that were developed for the U.S. Marine 92A1, and it shoots the powerful .40 S&W cartridge instead of the 9mm. The 96A1 has a Picatinny rail on the frame, just ahead of the trigger guard, for the attachment of aftermarket tactical sights and lights. The 96A1 utilizes the same short recoil, delayed blowback system, as does the battle proven Beretta M9, with an additional internal recoil buffer to reduce stress on the receiver for longer service life. Built on extremely strong, lightweight, forged aircraft-quality aluminum-alloy frames, these semi-automatic pistols feature an open top slide that virtually eliminates jamming and stove piping. A 3-dot sight system provides rapid sight acquisition, and enhances the sight picture in low-light conditions; the front sight is dovetailed to the slide for easy replacement. The 96A1 comes with a beveled magazine well to facilitate rapid reloading when milliseconds count. A chrome-lined barrel provides extreme corrosion resistance and ease of cleaning, while the deeply recessed combat muzzle crown protects the rifling. The 96A1 fieldstrips easily without the need of tools, with the disassembly latch staying on the gun and returning to the locked position automatically. A captive recoil spring assembly simplifies assembly and disassembly while minimizing possible spring loss.
